Apple announced today that it’s latest iPhone, the iPhone 3GS, has topped the 1 million units sold mark as of Sunday, matching it’s iPhone 3G debut last year.
“Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
“With over 50,000 applications available from Apple’s revolutionary App Store,
iPhone momentum is stronger than ever.”
What Apple has failed to mention is how many of the older iPhone 3G at the $99 price point were sold. Even if numbers were half as good as the 3GS, this could mark one of the most successful Apple product launches ever.
In addition, Apple has also announced that the iPhone 3.0 software, available to all iPhone users, was downloaded more than 6 million times. The new software features tethering, MMS and copy and paste functionality.
